The glossary is a growing depository of short explanations for frequently used terms on the blog.

The big six -- A group of clubs in Premier League that have in recent seasons contended for the title and qualification in the Champions League by finishing in the top four. The big six is comprised of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham. Since the 2005-2006 season, only clubs from this group have finished in the top four. The big six is an expansion of the original big four that was comprised of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Goal difference -- The number of goals allowed subtracted from goals scored.

Net passing -- The number of passes completed by a team net of the number of passes completed by the opposing team (net passing = passes completed by a team - passes completed by opposing team). If a team completes more passes than the opposing team then net passing is a positive number; if a team completes fewer passes than the opposing team then net passing is a negative number.

Points per game -- The number of points accrued divided by the number of games played. A team accrues three points for a win and one point for a draw.
